[Women's Basketball] BCU National Tournament Headquarters!

The BCU women's basketball team (25-7) will play Holy Names (23-9), at 7 p.m., today, in the first round of the NAIA Div. II Women's Basketball National Championship, at the Tyson Event Center, in Sioux City. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students with an ID. Tickets can be purchased at the Tyson Event Center Box Office. The game will be broadcast on the Charger Sports Network (LISTEN) and locally on New 102 (102.3 FM).

The Charger Sports Network will broadcast each of this year's games at the NAIA Div. II Women's Basketball National Championship, in Sioux City, Iowa. Briar Cliff's first round match-up is against the Hawks of Holy Names, from Oakland, California. Tip-off for the game is set for 7 p.m., Thursday, March 11. New 102 (102.3 FM) will also carry the game with the FiberComm Pre-Game Show beginning 15-20 minutes prior to tip-off.

The Charger baseball team split today's doubleheader at Ottawa, dropping the opener, 9-8, before winning the nightcap, 7-3. The win in game two was the first of the season for the Chargers, who are now 1-11. Ottawa is 5-5. Yesterday, the Braves swept a doubleheader, 7-6 (8) and 9-2.

In the finals of the 60m at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships, in Johnson City, Tenn., Sam Acheampong ran a 6.90 and finished sixth, earning all-American honors. Acheampong won his preliminary heat in the open 60m with a time of 6.83. Then, in the semifinals of the he clocked a personal-best and school record 6.80. (RESULTS)

Ashley Sparks missed all-American status by the slimmest of margins at this year's NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships, in Johnson City, Tennessee. Sam Acheampong won his preliminary heat in the open 60m with a time of 6.83. Josh Rogers won his opening match at the 2010 NAIA National Wrestling Championships, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The 133-pound Rogers defeated Elliot Martin of Lindenwood, 16-9. He will now face Travis Evans of Grand View, who had a first round bye.

For junior Zack Mullins and sophomore Sammy Johnson, this is a return trip to the NAIA National Wrestling Championships. For junior transfer Josh Rogers, this will be his first trip to the national stage. The Briar Cliff wrestling team (under the direction of head coach Damon Clayborne) sent three Chargers to this year's NAIA National Wrestling Championships, which begin at 1 p.m., today, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The official bracket has been released for this year's NAIA Div. II Women's Basketball National Championship, which will be held March 10-16, at the Tyson Event Center, in Sioux City. In their opening game of the tournament, the Chargers of coach Mike Power will play Holy Names, at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 11. [Men's Basketball] Geelan Earns First Team All-GPAC Accolade

BCU junior Matt Geelan has been named a first team all-Great Plains Athletic Conference basketball selection for the 2009-10 season. Geelan, who averaged 11.4 ppg, led the Chargers in field goal percentage (59.4), rebounding (7.2 rpg) and assists (176). He finished first in the league in assist/turnover ratio, second in the conference in field goal percentage, third in assists and seventh in rebounding.

[Women's Basketball] Grider Named GPAC Player of the Year

Senior Liz Grider has been selected as the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Year and she headlines the GPAC Basketball All-Conference Teams for 2009-10. She is Briar Cliff's first-ever two-time first team all-GPAC selection.
