Josh Wheeler returns for his fifth year as an assistant coach at Briar Cliff. He serves as the Chargers' pitching coach.

In 2007 Wheeler's staff produced two GPAC second team all-conference pitchers in Jared Jacobs and Ryan Gorsett. The staff also produced three GPAC honorable mention all-conference selections in Stephen Keane, Trent Schneider, and Andrew English.

Wheeler is a special education teacher at North Middle School. Wheeler is a 2001 graduate of Morningside College, where he was a two-time, first-team, All-North Central Conference and 2001 ABCA All-Central Region pitcher. He posted a career record of 10-7 with a 3.58 ERA, 97 strikeouts and 16 saves. As a senior, he recorded nine saves, setting a school record. Wheeler began his collegiate career at Westmar, transferring when the school closed its doors. Wheeler was a four-time baseball letter winner for the Wolverines of West High School in Sioux City.
