(Jan. 9, 2008)  Briar Cliff head women's basketball coach Mike Power has announced that Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn's Whitney Waechter will join the BCU program next year.  Waechter is a 10-time letterwinner for the Hawks of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School (four in basketball, three each in track and volleyball). This season, she is averaging 18.1 ppg and 9.4 rpg. The 6-2 Waechter is Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn's career rebound and block leader. She also owns school record for rebounds in a game (18 in 2005-06) and in a season (208 in 2005-06). Her name is atop the school's list for free throws made (96) and attempted (147) in 2005-06. She earned second team all-conference as a sophomore and third team all-conference as a junior. She was a three-time all-conference volleyball selection, earning first team honors, senior year. Aside from athletics, Waechter is involved in National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, student council and flag corps. Waechter is the daughter of Steve and Rhonda Waechter.
