(April 16, 2008)  Le Mars Gehlen's Eric Rohe has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Briar Cliff University, next year. Rohe follows in the footsteps of his older brother Neil, who was named the Briar Cliff's MVP this year after an honorable mention all-American senior season.

"We are pleased to have Eric join our program," said Briar Cliff head men's basketball coach Todd Barry. "He comes from a family with a rich basketball tradition and will be an asset to our program."

The younger Rohe averaged 17.1 ppg, 7.5 rpg and 3.0 apg during his senior season at Gehlen, earning first team all-conference and second team all-Northwest Iowa honors. As a junior, he was a second team all-conference selection. The 6-1 Rohe is a two-time CYO all-tournament team member and was twice named the Jays' MVP. He finished his career at Gehlen with 831 points and 400 rebounds.

Outside of athletics, Rohe is involved in National Honor Society and Christian Leadership. The honor roll member earned the War Eagle Conference Academic Achievement Award and was named Gehlen Catholic's Academic Athlete of the Year. The son of Thomas and Donna Rohe of Le Mars, Iowa plans to major in biology at Briar Cliff.

Rohe joins a BCU recruiting class which also includes Korey McDonald (Rock Rapids, IA), Jerod Reinking (Hawarden, IA), Ben Sitzmann (Sioux City, IA) and Morris Smeader (Ankeny, IA).
