Messena's Lorna Daugherty has signed a letter of intent to play softball at Briar Cliff University, next year.

Daugherty earned 15 varsity letters for the Cougars (four each in basketball, softball and track and three in volleyball).  She was a first team all-conference pitcher as a junior and second team all-conference outfielder as a sophomore.  She earned honorable mention all-conference volleyball honors, senior year. 

Aside from athletics, the 5-3 Daugherty is involved in National Honor Society, Quill & Scroll and church youth group.  The honor roll member served as editor of the student newspaper editor of the yearbook and vice president of the student body.  The daughter of Dan and Tracy Daugherty of Massena, Iowa plans to major in mass communications at Briar Cliff.  Her father played baseball at South Dakota, while her mother played softball at Dana.
