Tom Rethman - Head Coach

Tom Rethman is in his first year as the Chargers' head football coach. Rethman came to Briar Cliff following assistant coaching stops at various NCAA I-AA (Illinois State, Southern Illinois) and NCAA DIII (Knox College, Carroll College and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh) institutions. 

 
Most recently, Rethman spent seven seasons as the offensive coordinator at Wisconsin-Oshkosh.  In 2007, his offense led the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in fewest turnovers, while ranking second in rushing offense and passing efficiency.  The Titans were third in total offense and averaged 28.2 ppg.  Prior to coaching at Wisconsin Oshkosh, Rethman was the offensive coordinator at Carroll College for two years.  In one season, he helped the Pioneers' team improve from last in total offense and scoring offense to third in both categories. 
 
Rethman is a 1992 graduate of Knox College, where he earned his undergraduate degree in history and was a four-time letterwinner at defensive back.  He then spent one season at Knox as an assistant coach, overseeing the wide receivers and tight ends.  He then served as a graduate assistant at Southern Illinois for a year before completing his graduate studies at Illinois State.  At Southern Illinois, Rethman worked with the defensive backs and outside linebackers, while at Illinois State, he coached the tight ends, offensive line, kickers and punters for two seasons.  After earning his master's degree from Illinois State in 1996, Rethman returned to his alma mater where he served as offensive coordinator for three years.  He also coached the quarterbacks, kickers and punters.     

Aside from coaching, Rethman has also held various other on-campus positions such as assistant athletic director, academic advisor, instructor, academic coordinator, recruiting coordinator and weight room supervisor.

Rethman and his wife, Michelle, have four children; daughters, Devin, Tara and Jenna, and son, Garrett.

Spetlar Tonga - Assistant Coach
Spetlar Tonga is in his fourth year as an assistant coach with the Charger football program.  Tonga has been a defensive leader for the Sioux City Bandits of the United Indoor Football League for the past five years.  This past season, he registered 69 total tackles, while leading the team with 13.5 tackles for loss, eight quarterback hurries and 3.5 sacks.  In 59 career games with the Bandits, Tonga has totaled 283 tackles.  Prior to playing with the Bandits, Tonga played at Morningside from 2001 until 2003.  Tonga and his wife, Sheena, reside in Sioux City.
Jamie Zamjahn - Assistant Coach
Jamie Zamjahn is in his first year at Briar Cliff University and he will serve as the Chargers' running backs coach. Zamjahn has spent the previous four years at Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University in Pathum Thani, Thailand, where he was an instructor of English. Prior to moving abroad, he was a head coach in the St. Cloud (Minn.) School District from 2001-2002.  While there, he amassed a 12-4 record including a Central Lakes Conference Championship in 2001.  The Chaska, Minn. native is a 2003 graduate of Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota. Zamjahn and his wife, Wan, reside in Sioux City.
 
Dan Fraley - Assistant Coach
Dan Fraley returns to the program after briefly working with the Chargers' defensive line in 2007.  He will serve as the program's tight end coach for the 2008 season.  Fraley came to Briar Cliff following a coaching stint with the Sioux City North High School football program.  He is currently a sergeant with the Sioux City Police Department, assigned to youth investigations.  Fraley and his wife, Holly, have two children; Hillary and Ryan.
Kyle Langhoff - Assistant Coach

Kyle Langhoff is in his first year with the Charger Football Program.  He will serve as the squad's defensive coordinator and will also assist with numerous facets of the program from recruiting to serving as the team's strength and conditioning coach.  Langhoff comes to Briar Cliff from Central Methodist University, where he served as an assistant coach for the past four years.  In 2007, he served as a co-defensive coordinator for the Eagles, where the defense was ranked in the top half of the conference in numerous defensive categories.  He has also coached several All-Conference and All-Americans, both for athletic and academic achievement.  In addition to coaching, Langhoff taught physical education classes at Central Methodist from 2006-2007. 

 
He is a member of the America Football Coaches Association as well as other coaches associations.  He has also assisted with football camps at both Central Methodist and the University of Missouri.      
The Blackstone, Illinois, native is a 2003 graduate of Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois.  He was a four-year letterwinner on the Forester's offensive line.  From there, he went on to earn his masters' degree in education from Central Methodist in 2005.  Langhoff and his wife, Kelly, reside in Sioux City.
Keith Chapman - Assistant Coach
Andrew Dutler - Assistant Coach
Andrew Dutler is in his first year as an assistant with the Briar Cliff football program. Dutler also serves as an Educational Talent Search advisor at Briar Cliff. Prior to coming to Briar Cliff, Dutler studied Organizational Psychology, Interpersonal Communication, and Coaching at the University of Nebraska-Omaha where he was involved in Sports Performance Research focused on the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of athletes. The 2002 Bishop Heelan High School graduate was a four-sport standout for the Crusaders. He earned all conference honors as a wide receiver/safety. Dutler will work specifically with the Chargers' wide receivers.
 
Floyd Webb - Assistant Coach
Floyd Webb joins the BCU football program after one year as the running backs coach at Grinnell College.  Webb has also had coaching stints at Southwestern College, Highland Community College, University of Nebraska-Omaha, Morningside College and Dana College.  Webb will serve at the Chargers' offensive line coach. 
 
Webb played football at both Nebraska-Omaha (1993-95) and Westmar University (1996-97).  The linebacker and defensive end earned his bachelor of arts degree from Westmar in 1997 and his master's degree in health, recreastion and physical education from Nebraska-Omaha in 2006.
 
Aside from working with the BCU football program, Webb also serves as the institution's Director of Multcultural and Leadership Programs.
Drew Ulrich - Student Assistant

HS: Two-time football letterwinner for the Monarchs of Denison…earned first team all-conference honors, senior year.

 

PERSONAL: Son of Jeff and Terri Ullrich of Denison, Iowa…majoring in business.
