Nate Treinen - Head Coach

Treinen is in his fourth year as head men's and women's track and cross country coach.  Treinen served as an assistant coach under Bryan Betzold and Matt Canterbury. Treinen, a 2003 BCU graduate, was a three-year member of the BCU Track team and still holds school records in the, and sprint medley relays. Treinen is the third member of his family to graduate from Briar Cliff.

He was a 1999 graduate of Remsen St. Mary's and a four-year track letterwinner for the Hawks. His medley relay team garnered all-state honors after second and third place state meet finishes
 
Treinen and his wife, Kristin, reside in Sioux City.
Greg Hoffman - Assistant Coach
Greg Hoffman is in his first year as an assistant with the Briar Cliff track program.  He will serve as the Chargers' men's and women's throws coach.

Previously Hoffman served as throws coach for Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, Ariz. in 2005. Desert Vista is Arizona's premier track and field program with 10 Arizona State Championships, 10 state runner's up, and 23 regional championships, between cross country and track and field.  The class 5A school has also proven to be a national contender year in and year out.  Hoffman coached two state champions in his time at Desert Vista; one each in discus and shot put.

Hoffman attended and lettered in football at South Dakota State University from 1999-2001. In 2002, Hoffman was a student-coach for the inaugural Briar Cliff University football team.

The 1999 graduate of Estherville-Lincoln Central was a four-year track letterwinner for the Mighty Midgets. He qualified for state in the discus in 1998.  In 1999, he competed at both the Drake Relays and state competitions in both the discus and shot put.

 

Hoffman and his wife, Angela, reside in Sioux City with their two boys.

Stephan Pearson - Assistant Coach
Pearson is in his eighth year as an assistant with the Briar Cliff track program.  He also served as an assistant coach for the BCU football program for two years.
 
Pearson, a 1992 graduate of Morningside, was a track all-American for the Chiefs.  He still holds several school records including the indoor and outdoor 200m.  Pearson ran a 22.0 in the indoor 200 and 21.0 outdoors.  He also holds the indoor 300m record and a share of the school's 4x400m indoor mark.
 
Aside from coaching at Briar Cliff, Peason is a juvenille court officer for the third judicial district.  He has worked in the judicial system for eight years.
Gil Ridenour Image
Gil Ridenour - Assistant Coach
Gil Ridenour is in his first year as an assistant coach with the Briar Cliff track program. Ridenour comes to Briar Cliff after earning his Masters' degree in theology from Creighton University, in 2009. Prior to that, Ridenour attended Iowa State University, earning bachelor degrees in both religious studies and history. Ridenour competed in the high jump for the Cyclones of ISU and was a two-time scholar-athlete. Ridenour will work specifically as the Chargers' jump coach this season. Ridenour has coached basketball and track previously at high school and elementary levels in his hometown of Council Bluffs, Iowa.  Aside from coaching, Ridenour serves as Briar Cliff's Associate Campus Minister.
