Seven Briar Cliff University men's basketball players, all from the state of Iowa, were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC ) Honors Court, which recognizes those collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2009-10 academic year. 
Briar Cliff seniors Michael Dickes (Sioux Center, Iowa), Brent Miller (Rockwell City, Iowa) and Nathan Young (Sergeant Bluff, Iowa), along with juniors Jared Clement (Le Mars, Iowa), James Larson (Greenfield, Iowa), Kyle Semprini (Carroll, Iowa) and Kyle Swanson (Ogden, Iowa) were all named to the prestigious Honors Court. Dickes and Young earned degrees in sports science, while Miller majored in business. Dickes saw action in 14 games before suffering a season-ending knee injury. At the time of the injury, Dickes was averaging 7.5 ppg and 3.9 rpg. Miller saw action in 10 games and contributed 2.0 ppg, while Young played in 13 games, averaging 1.3 ppg and 1.7 rpg. Clement and Swanson are biology majors, while Larson and Semprini are majoring in education and mass communications, respectively. Clement saw action in 19 games and averaged 2.3 ppg. Larson averaged 4.4 ppg and 2.5 rpg, while shooting 58.3 percent from the field. Semprini averaged 14.5 ppg and set a single-season three-point record with 103 three-pointers. Swanson averaged 8.2 ppg and 3.5 rpg, while shooting 59.1 percent from the floor.
 
To qualify for the award, student athletes had to meet the following qualifications: junior or senior varsity player, cumulative 3.2 or higher grade point average, spent at least one year at current institution and be a member of an NCAA Div. I, II, III or NAIA institution.
 
The Chargers finished the 2009-10 season, the sixth under Head Coach Todd Barry, with a record of 23-9. They were 12-6 in the GPAC and 14-2 at the Newman Flanagan Center. Barry's Chargers were nationally-ranked for some of the season and climbed as high as No. 5.
