After just a few weeks on the job, Briar Cliff wrestling coach Joe Privitere was chosen to help train Team Iowa. Privitere is currently working with the Iowa Cadet Greco team, preparing the squad for the ASICS/Vaughan Junior & Cadet National Championships, which will be held July 18-24, in Fargo, N.D.
Each state holds a qualifying tournament for athletes to earn the right to represent their state at this high profile meet. The event features three divisions (cadet, junior men and junior women) and features competition in both the freestyle and Greco-Roman styles.
The training consists of three sessions per day. Sessions include a combination of technique training and live wrestling. Privitere is working with about 50 wrestlers, who make up the Cadet Greco team. Privitere, one of just eight coaches who have been selected to work with the squad, will be matside when the championships begin, July 18.
"This is a great opportunity for me to be a part of an excellent event and to work with some of the best young wrestlers in the state," said Privitere.
Privitere, who holds a USAW Broze-Level Certification and has experience with USA Wrestling, was hired by Briar Cliff in early June. He came to Briar Cliff following a three-year stint as the head assistant coach at Davidson.
