Briar Cliff sophomore Sam Acheampong won his semifinal heat of the 100m dash at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University.
He ran a 10.55, the second-fastest time in the two semifinal heats. Then, in the finals, he finished seventh with a time of 10.61, one spot away from all-American honors. Junior Jon Smith took Acheampong's spot on the Chargers' 4x100m relay team and the squad finished eighth in its semifinal run with a time of 42.78. Junior Erik Lindsay finished eighth in his semifinal heat of the 110m hurdles with a 15.26. Freshman Clay Pagels tied for eighth overall in the finals of the high jump after clearing 6-07.
