The Briar Cliff men's track team faired well on the opening day of the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University.  In fact, each of the Chargers' national qualifiers advanced to tomorrow's semifinals/finals.

Sophomore Sam Acheampong ran a new school record time of 10.44 in the prelims of the 100m dash, finishing second in his heat. He advances to tomorrow's semifinals with the sixth-best preliminary time. Meanwhile, junior Erik Lindsay was fifth in his 110m hurdles prelim with a time of 14.74, his best time of the season, but off of his school record pace of 14.60. Lindsay is ranked 16th as he moves into tomorrow's semifinals. At last year's outdoor meet, he finished fifth in his semi-final heat. Lindsay is a two-time outdoor national qualifier in the 110m hurdles. The Chargers' 4x100m relay team also advanced to the semifinals, earning the last spot with a time of 41.90.  Sophomore Cody Spreeman earned the starting spot for the Chargers and was followed by Acheampong, sophomore Cecil Milton and Lindsay.  That same foursome set the school record with a 41.73 at the Doane Tune-Up, May 14. For Acheampong, Lindsay and Milton, this is their second-straight trip to run the 4x100m at the outdoor national meet. The semifinals of each event will take place tomorrow afternoon as well as the finals of the 100m dash and 110m hurdles. The finals of the men's 4x100m will be at 2:50 p.m., Saturday.  The Chargers' final national qualifier, freshman Clay Pagels, was idle today, but will compete at 6 p.m., tomorrow in the high jump. Pagels set the school record in the high jump in his first year with the program, clearing 6-08.25.
