Junior Tana Colt and senior Joanne Sweeney have been named 2010 Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar-Athletes. Colt and Sweeney are two of 275 softball players from across the nation who were honored with the award. Sweeney, a catcher from Cheyenne, Wy., is a two-time recipient. Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieve junior academic status to qualify. Sweeney saw action in 27 games this past season, registering a dozen hits. She also produced a fielding percentage of .955. Colt, a shortstop from Akron, Iowa, led the team with a .433 batting average, 47 hits, 28 runs and seven stolen bases. She also had a slugging percentage of .495. The Chargers, of head coach Michelle Schaper, finished the 2010 season with an overall record of 17-20 and a conference mark of 11-13, just missing the GPAC playoff.
