The Charger softball team dropped a pair of game to crosstown Morningside at the SYA Sports Complex in Riverside. The Mustangs shutout the Chargers in game one (
5-0) and then collected an
8-2 win in the nightcap.
The Chargers were held to only three hits in the opener as Tana Colt, Shelby Schmidt and Jessica Horton each had one. The Mustangs belted 12 hits and had four players register multiple hits. Kelly Baumert threw the complete game shutout for the Mustangs, striking out eight. Camille Cruz pitched a complete game for the Chargers, while striking out nine.
In game two, the Mustangs scored four runs in the first inning and finished the game with eight runs on 10 hits. Six different Chargers managed a hit in the contest. Cruz started the game for BCU, but was replaced by C.J. Swenson after allowing four runs on two hits. Swenson went six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits.
The Mustangs improved to 15-3 and remain the top team in the GPAC. They are 29-7 overall. The Chargers, who host Concordia on Friday, are now 6-6 in the GPAC and 12-13 overall. The Bulldogs of Concordia are just below the Chargers in the conference standings with a record of 17-13 (7-9).
