The Briar Cliff softball team registered a two-game sweep over the Flames of the College of St. Mary, in Omaha, Nebraska with 32 hits on the day. The Chargers shutout the home team,
8-0, in the opener and earned a
7-5, eight-inning decision in game two. With the sweep, the Chargers improved to 12-11 overall.
The Chargers belted out 15 hits in the opener, 12 more than they allowed. Tana Colt led the Chargers offensively as she went 4-5 and scored twice. Liz Roby was 3-4, while Bailey Huls and Shelby Schmidt had two hits apiece. Huls had a round-tripper and led the squad with three RBI. Camille Cruz pitched a complete game shutout while striking out eight.
In the second game, the Chargers blasted 17 hits. However, the game was still tied 3-3 after seven innings. The Chargers, who stranded 12 runners during the game, plated four runs in the eighth to give them the win. Five different Chargers had multiple hits in the game, paced by Colt (4-5) and Annessa Garcia (3-5). Garcia had a homerun and led the Chargers with four RBI. Cruz and Swenson split time on the mound.
While the Chargers improved to 12-11, the Flames slipped to 6-17 on the season.
