The Chargers posted a 61-37 advantage on the boards and registered a
62-53 victory over the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch in the quarterfinals of the NAIA Div. II Women's Basketball National Championship.
Both teams struggled shooting ball, as Briar Cliff shot 30.8 percent from the field and Cardinal Stritch shot 30.9 percent. The two teams were a combined 8-45 from downtown.
Liz Grider led the Chargers with 19 points, while Megan Salcedo produced a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double. Kylie Dilla tossed in nine points, while registering team-highs of three assists and four steals. Likeisha Dotson and Morgan Brown each added five points, while Christa Stewart finished with four. Kela Cihak and Kelsey Evans rounded out the scoring with three and two points, respectively. The Chargers committed 24 turnovers in the contest, while forcing 16.
The Wolves were paced by a trio of double figure scorers in Michelle Stelloh (17 points), Liz Neitzel (11 points) and Brittney Daum (10 points). Renet Skorusa led the Wolves on the glass with 10 rebounds before fouling out.
With the win, the Chargers improved to 28-7 on the season and advanced to the program's third final four and first under coach Mike Power. The Chargers will play the Red Raiders of Northwestern, at 8 p.m., Monday, in the national semifinals. The Wolves end their season with a record of 30-3.
