Sam Acheampong won his preliminary heat in the open 60m with a time of 6.83.  Then, in the semifinals of the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships, in Johnson City, Tenn., he clocked a personal-best 6.80, qualifing for the finals in the event and assuring himself of being an NAIA All-American.  Acheampong's final will be tomorrow, at 1:25 p.m.
The Chargers' two other national qualifiers, Caleb Young and Erik Lindsay, each had their own touch of bad luck in the 60m hurdles.  Young was disqualified after a false start, while Lindsay ran in a slow heat and registered a time of 8.38.  Lindsay put up the 13th-best time in prelims, but only 12 athletes advanced to the semifinals.  Lindsay owns Briar Cliff's school record in the event with a time of 8.17.
