The Chargers advanced to the GPAC quarterfinals with an
84-56 home victory over the Warriors of Midland Lutheran. The Chargers won the game with solid shooting (48.6 percent) and an overwhelming advantage on the boards (50-24).
Briar Cliff shot 55.2 percent in the first half and 48.6 percent for the game. Ben Sitzmann was a perfect 3-3 from the field and finished with seven points. The Chargers were led by Chase Vander Feen's 16 points and game-high six assists. Matt Geelan produced his sixth double-double of the season, finishing with 12 points and a dozen rebounds. Kyle Swanson tossed in 12 points, while Kyle Semprini added 11.
The Warriors shot 37.5 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from three-point land. Jason Ahrens led the Warriors with 19 points and five caroms. Justin Kulwicki chipped in 17 points for the Warriors. Ahrens and Kulwicki accounted for all but 20 Midland Lutheran points.
With the win, the Chargers improve to 22-8 on the season and will now play at Concordia, Thursday. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m.
