Josh Rogers went 4-1 and finished third at this past weekend's NAIA Northern Region Wrestling Tournament, earning him the Gunderson's Jewel of the Week Award. For his efforts, the 133-pounder became the third Charger to qualify for nationals.
Rogers dropped his first match of the tournament, an 11-1 major decision to eventual runner-up Blake Hunter of Dickinson State. Rogers responded with four-straight wins, including a pin of Morningside's Jake McManigal in 4:30. He also defeated Northwestern's Nathan Manfull (9-1), Dana's Matt Jacobson (7-1) and Dana's Ty Costa (7-2). Hunter was ranked 12th in the nation, while Jacobson was ninth.
Rogers will join teammates Zack Mullins (149) and Sammy Johnson (165) at the NAIA National Wrestling Championships, March 4-6, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
