Hastings won its fifth-straight game as it knocked-off Briar Cliff,
96-81, at Lynn Farrell Area, on the Hastings College campus. For Briar Cliff, it was their fourth defeat in their last five contests.
Hastings improved to 20-5 overall and 11-3 in the GPAC. Briar Cliff is now 18-7 overall and 9-5 in conference play.
The game was fairly even and well-played by both teams. The Broncos shot 49.0 percent from the floor, while the Chargers managed 48.5 percent. Hastings outshot Briar Cliff from downtown, 40.0 percent to 33.3 percent. Each team had a dozen or less turnovers in the contest (12 for Briar Cliff, 11 for Hastings), while the Broncos outrebounded the Chargers, 40-33.
Chase Vander Feen led all Chargers with 18 points. He was 3-10 from three-point land. Matt Geelan nearly produced a triple-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. James Larson and Ben Sitzmann, each making their second-straight start, scored 12 points apiece.
Hastings was led in scoring by Jeremiah Slough who tallied a game-high 26 points as he went 4-6 from beyond the arc.
