The Briar Cliff wrestling program will host this year's Briar Cliff University Open, Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Newman Flanagan Center, on the BCU campus. The field includes 14 teams, including seven of the eight conference teams which support the sport; Briar Cliff, Dana, Dakota Wesleyan, Hastings, Morningside, Northwestern, Sioux Falls).
The field is also expected to include Augustana, Bacone, Dickinson State, Grand View, Iowa State, Oklahoma City and Wayne State. Several of these teams are nationally-ranked including; No. 8 Dana, No. 9 Grand View, No. 11 Dickinson State, No. 13 Oklahoma City, No. 17 Morningside and No. 19 Northwestern. Hastings and Dakota Wesleyan were each receiving votes in the latest NAIA ratings. Nearly 175 wrestlers are expected to compete and competition is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
 
Briar Cliff is expected to showcase nine wrestlers at the event. Junior Josh Rogers (133) and freshman Matt Solomon (285) led the Chargers with fourth place finishes at the GPAC Championships. Sophomore Sammy Johnson (165) and fellow 2010 national qualifier junior Zack Mullins (149) will also compete. Aside from sophomore Ben Taylor (157), the remainder of the Chargers' line-up is expected to be freshmen (Ethan Johnson-141, Cody Osburn-174, Damien Eichelberger-174, Mike Weaver-285).
