Somehow, NAIA No. 15 Briar Cliff found a way. The Chargers overcame a landslide of turnovers to defeat crosstown Morningside,
74-69, at the Tyson Events Center. Trailing 67-54 with 4:47 left in the game, the Chargers went on a 19-0 run to take control of the game. The victory snapped a 15-game losing streak to the No. 18 Mustangs.
The Chargers committed 29 turnovers in the contest, but forced Morningside into 25. The Chargers shot 46.3 percent from the field, while holding the Mustangs to 29.8 percent. The Mustangs were also only 7-36 from downtown. Morningside, however, outrebounded Briar Cliff, 55-47, with 29 offensive boards.
Megan Salcedo led the Chargers with 16 points, while the nation's leading scorer, Liz Grider, was held to 15 points. Michelle Determan chipped in 11 points, while Britney Below finished with 10.
Chelsie Trask led the Mustangs with a game-high 22 points. Brittany Williamson contributed a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double.
With the victory, the Chargers improved to 15-3 overall and 4-2 in the GPAC. The Mustangs are now 11-7 (4-3).
