Briar Cliff senior linebacker Jarrod Makovicka has been named a first team all-conference selection by the Great Plains Athletic Conference. This past season, he registered 63 solo and 94.5 total tackles, leading the league in tacklesfor the second-straight year. Makovicka also produced 9.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, a fumble recovery and a sack. Makovicka earned honorable mention honors as a freshman and second team honors as a sophomore and junior.

Junior wideout Chase Colvin earned second team all-GPAC accolades after leading the team with 590 receiving yards and six touchdowns, while senior defensive back Taylor Schumacher also earned second team honors. Colvin had 41 receptions on the season, third-highest on the squad. Schumacher was seventh in the conference with 69.5 total tackles. He also tied a school record with a team-best five interceptions on the season. He was one of three defenders in the conference to produce at least five picks on the season.
 
Honorable mention honors went to seniors Calvin Christophersen and Luke Roder and juniors Eric Bolin, Andrew Prohaska,Jon Smith and Steve Urquidez and sophomores Cecil Milton and Brady Summers. Christophersen, who missed two games with injury, had 23 solo and 33.5 total tackles on the season. He was also second on the team with three interceptions and had one fumble return for a touchdown. Roder was second on the team with 43 receptions, 477 yards and five receiving touchdowns. Bolin finished the season with 62.5 tackles, including 9.5 tackles for loss, a sack, an interception and a fumble recovery. Prohaska led the Chargers in all-purpose yards with 154.4 yards per game. He led the team with 46 receptions and was third in receiving yards with 437. He also was the squad's second-leading rusher with 265 yards on 57 carries. He scored four touchdowns on the ground. Prohaska was ranked fourth in the GPAC in punt return average (9.7) and kick return average (26.6), fifth in receptions per game (4.6) and in all-purpose yards. Smith was fourth on the team in tackles with 44.0 and was second with six break-ups. He also had one interception and 2.5 tackles for loss. Urquidez totaled 35.0 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss and two sacks. Milton, who led the conference with 1.40 passes defended per game, produced four picks on the season (one which he returned for a score) and led the squad with 10 break-ups. His four interceptions tied him for fifth in the league in that department. He also registered 28.0 tackles. Summers led the Chargers with 3.5 sacks and also rang up 26.0 tackles and 7.0 tackles for loss. He was tied for ninth in the conference with 0.35 sacks per game.
 
The Chargers finished the 2009 season by winning three of their final five games.Theyproduceda record of 4-7 overall and 4-6 in the GPAC, doubling their win total from a season ago.
