The Briar Cliff football team ended the 2009 season by picking up an 8-7 road victory over Nebraska Wesleyan.  It is the first win over Nebraska Wesleyan in seven tries.  The Chargers used a pair of Josh McKean field goals and a safety to pick up their fourth victory of the season.  The Chargers finished the season with a share of seventh place and a record of 4-7, doubling their win total from a season ago.
The Chargers struck first blood as McKean connected on a 25-yard field goal with 3:44 left in the opening quarter.  The Chargers then added a safety and a 27-yarder by McKean to push the lead to 8-0 at halftime.  In the second half, the Charger defense rose to the occasion several times, especially in the game's final minutes.  The Prairie Wolves started a drive at the BCU 39 with 4:49 left in the contest.  Three plays later, Cecil Milton intercepted Nebraska Wesleyan's Matt Hagge to give the Chargers the ball and a chance to seal the game.  The Chargers then went three and out and the Prairie Wolves took over at their own 45 following a McKean punt.  The Prairie Wolves moved 21 yards on seven plays, but missed a 52 yard field goal with 1:13 left.  On the ensuing drive, the Chargers were able to run out the clock and preserve the victory.

The Prairie Wolves, now 5-5, outgained the Chargers in total yards, 238-173.  The Chargers were held to just 53 yards on the ground, paced by Drew Prohaska's 16 yards on seven carries.  Lehi Tonga was 12-24 for 120 yards and an interception.  Prohaska had four receptions for 45 yards.  The Chargers, who owned a 31:59 to 28:01 advantage in time of possession, won the game despite going 0-14 on third down conversions.

The Prairie Wolves rushed for 162 yards, but were held to only 76 yards though the air.  Hagge was 7-27 and was intercepted three times.  The Charger defense came up big throughout the game.  Cecil Milton finished with two interceptions, while Calvin Christopherson also registered a pick.  Jarrod Makovicka finished his BCU career with another outstanding performance with 16 tackles, including five solos, 1.5 tackles for loss and one sack.
