NAIA No. 4 Morningside stayed unbeaten with a 45-17 victory over Briar Cliff on senior day at Memorial Field.  The now 9-0 Mustangs used a 21-point second quarter to pull away from the Chargers, who fell to 3-7 overall and 3-6 in the GPAC.

The Chargers held the Mustangs to 182 yards rushing and 212 yards passing.  Jarrod Makovicka had an outstanding performance, registering a near school single game record of 18 tackles, including 10 solo tackles.  He also had two tackles for loss and one interception.  Eric Bolin finished with 10 tackles and Jon Smith had eight.
 
Offensively, the Chargers produced 187 passing yards, but only 30 rushing yards.  Lehi Tonga was 22-38 for 178 yards and a 33-yard touchdown strike to Luke Roder.  Tonga had a 25-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.  He had 27 of the team's 30 rushing yards.  Roder finished the game with team-highs of eight receptions and 75 yards.
 
Next week, the Chargers will close out the 2009 season with a road game at Nebraska Wesleyan.
