The Briar Cliff men's soccer team will try to sweep the Mustangs of Morningside, as it plays at Morningside, at 7 p.m., tomorrow, in this year's GPAC Tournament. The Chargers defeated the Mustangs, 2-0, earlier in the season at Faber Field.
This is the Chargers' first postseason experience since joining the conference. The Chargers are 9-8 overall and 6-6 in the GPAC. They have lost back-to-back double overtime contests to Dakota Wesleyan and Upper Iowa. The Chargers have only played six road games all season and they are 2-4 in those contests. They are also 0-3 in overtime games.
The Chargers have scored 25 goals on the season, while their opponents have scored the same. The Chargers tend to score early, outscoring their opponents, 15-8 in the first half this season. In the second stanza, their opponents own a 14-10 advantage. Matt Boubel leads the Chargers in scoring this season with six goals, four of which have been game-winners. Andrew Smith leads the team with seven assists to go along with his five goals, while Chase Beiermann also has five tallies. Starting goalkeeper Buddy Goodenkauf owns a 1.46 goals against average and has had a hand in six shutouts on the season. Six of the Chargers' nine wins have been by shutout, including all six of their conference victories. Meanwhile, five of their eight defeats have been by a lone goal.
The Mustangs are 11-6-1 overall and 9-3 in the GPAC. They have won three-straight, including a victory over Hastings, which was previously unbeaten in conference play.
