The Briar Cliff men's soccer team suffered a 4-1 loss to No. 9 Hastings late this evening in Hastings, Nebraska. Rodrigo Oliveira tied the school record for the most assists in a season with his 12th assist of the year. Oliveira is now tied with Danny Wolf (1994) and Chris Blanchette (1996), who also accumulated 12 assists during those seasons. Hastings improved to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the GPAC with the victory tonight, while Briar Cliff slipped to 8-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

The Broncos got on the board early with Daniel Simonis scoring in the second minute off a double assist from Nick Hinds and Erik Tello. Hastings extended its lead to 2-0 a half hour later when Daniel Whitehall found the back of the net on a free kick. The teams headed into the locker rooms with Hastings up 2-0 at the half. Briar Cliff attempted to mount a comeback in the 50th minute when Prichard Sibanda scored off a double assist from Kye Edwards and Oliveira. The Broncos extended their lead to 3-1 in six minutes later when Caleb Osmond kicked in a goal off assists from Diego Gutierrez and Whitehall. Hastings added an insurance goal in the 88th minute when Eric Birighitti scored off an assist from Nick Hinds. The final tally of the game was 4-1 in favor of the Broncos.

Briar Cliff was outshot 28-10 and Hastings had the advantage in shots on goal (14-7). The Broncos held the edge in corner kicks (5-4). The Chargers had 10 saves, compared to the Broncos with six saves. Both teams were booked for 13 fouls. Hastings had three yellow cards, while Briar Cliff was cautioned once.

Sibanda scored the lone goal for the Blue and Gold, while Edwards and Oliveira teamed up for the assist. Sibanda led the team in scoring attempts with four, trailed by Javier Valle with two. Oliveira, Edwards, Luke Manganaro and Oscar Cendejas each attempted one shot. Charlie Enright went all 90 minutes and piled up six saves to go with four goals against.

Simonis, Whitehall, Osmond and Birighitti each had one goal for the Broncos. Hinds, Tello, Gutierrez, Whitehall and Hinds all had one assist apiece. Whitehall was the most aggressive Bronco with six shots, followed by Brayant Toro with four shots. Joe White was the winning keeper with four saves in 90 minutes to go with one goal against.

Briar Cliff will host Concordia on Wednesday. The Chargers and Bulldogs are scheduled to square off at Faber Field at 3:30 p.m.
