The Briar Cliff women's soccer team defeated Avila 2-1 this afternoon in Kansas City, Missouri. The Chargers improved to 4-2 with the win, while the Eagles dropped to 0-6.

Taylor Beaulieu scored the lone goal of the first half in the 33rd minute and the Chargers carried the 1-0 lead into the break. In the second half, Brenna Oliver scored the second goal of her collegiate career off an assist from Makenna Taylor to extend the lead to 2-0 for the Blue and Gold in the 47th minute. Alexis Sanchez found the back of the net for Avila to narrow the Cliff lead to 2-1 in the 53rd minute. Both teams went scoreless in the final 37 minutes and Briar Cliff earned the 2-1 victory.

Briar Cliff created 14 shots and 12 shots on goal, compared to Avila with nine shots and five shots on goal. The Chargers also held the edge in corner kicks (3-2). BCU had six penalties and was caught offsides twice in the match, while AU was charged with seven fouls and went offsides once.

Oliver led the offensive attack for the Cliff with four shots (three on goal) and a score, followed by Beaulieu with three scoring attempts (all three on goal) and a goal. Taylor also had three shots (all on goal) to go with her assist. Libby Havenridge was at keeper for all 90 minutes and piled up three saves to go with one goal allowed.

Alexis Sanchez was the most productive AU attacker with four shots (one on goal), trailed by Darian Malone with three shots (all on goal). Shea Myer was the losing goalie, going all 90 minutes and notching 10 saves while allowing two scores.

The Cliff will return to action on Saturday, battling Waldorf in Forest City, Iowa. Kickoff between the Chargers and Warriors is slated for 3 p.m.
