KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 1,677 team that have earned the distinction for Scholar-Teams for the 2016-17 academic year. Briar Cliff placed a school-record 16 teams on the list.

The 16 Briar Cliff teams included: women's cross country (3.62), women's golf (3.62), men's cross country (3.60), women's soccer (3.51), women's outdoor track & field (3.46), women's basketball (3.45), women's indoor track & field (3.36), men's basketball (3.34), women's volleyball (3.31), baseball (3.29), men's soccer (3.26), softball (3.26), men's indoor track & field (3.20), men's outdoor track & field (3.17), men's golf (3.16) and competitive cheer & dance (3.14).

For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team G.P.A. includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.

Briar Cliff's 16 teams rank fifth-most in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. Dordt and Morningside both fielded 18 teams while Concordia and Doane paced the conference with 19 each.
