Six Briar Cliff track and field athletes were in action today at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Dustin Peasley and Sam Burki competed in the javelin, while the relay team of Josh Haning, Tommy Thelen, Joe Heinrichs and Tony Kollasch ran in the prelims of the 4x800.

Peasley and Burki were the first Chargers to compete. Peasley launched the javelin 54.90 meters for 13th place and just missed All-American status by 1.45 meters. Burki finished four spots behind Peasley after heaving the javelin 48.63 meters. The 4x800 relay team of Hang, Thelen, Heinrichs, and Kollasch ran a team time of 7:51.23 in the prelims of the event and did not advance to the finals.

Trevor Westhoff and Kaylee Blake will wrap up the Chargers' stay at nationals in the discus. Westhoff will compete in the event tomorrow night at 5 p.m., while Blake will throw at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
