The Briar Cliff men's and women's track and field teams were in Fremont, Nebraska today to compete in the opening day of the GPAC Championship with several Chargers earning all-conference honors in their respective events. The top eight finishers in each event are deemed all-conference performers.

Dustin Peasley was the top performer for the Chargers as he won the conference title in the javelin throw with a toss of 57.04 meters. Teammate Sam Burki was also all-conference in the javelin after throwing it 51.91 meters to finish fourth. The 4x800 meter relay team of Josh Haning, Tony Kollasch, Joe Heinrichs and Tommy Thelen earned all-conference honors with a sixth place finish, clocking a 7:49.28. Sage Lloyd was also sixth in the prelims of the 100 meter dash and will automatically be all-conference as the top eight times advance to the final on Saturday. Chad Blank and Dalton Demers both narrowly missed out on being all-conference as Blank finished 10th in the 100 meter dash (11.18) and Demers was also 10th in the 10,000 meter run (34:42.08).

On the women's side, Johanna Vaske was the only Chargers to finish in the top eight in her event, placing fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.32 meters. Cassidy Schwab missed qualifying for finals in the 100 meter hurdles by less than a second, finishing the race in 16.68 seconds, while eighth place was 15.71 seconds.

Briar Cliff will be back in action tomorrow on day two of the GPAC Championships with plenty of Chargers making bids for all-conference honors.
