The Briar Cliff softball team lost both games of today's GPAC doubleheader at Midland with the Warriors winning game one 7-2 and game two by a final score of 7-1. The pair of losses dropped the Chargers to 8-27 overall and 2-14 in conference play, while the Warriors are now 15-21 overall and 5-9 in league matchups.

The Cliff was outhit 12-8 in game one but the Chargers had plenty of scoring opportunities, leaving seven runners stranded with the Warriors leaving four players on the base paths. Midland scored its first run of the game in the third inning to lead 1-0 and scored two more times in fourth to lead 3-0 before BC pulled within one run in the top of the sixth innings, scoring twice to make the score 3-2. Mikaela Rodriguez drove in the first run of the game to score Brenna Oliver and Elise Berg scored Charlotte Alston to bring in the second run. Midland responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to push its lead to 7-2 and then held BC scoreless in the seventh for the win.

Madison Deane and Nicole Romero both had two hits for the Chargers, followed by Summer Williams, Ashley Del Alto, Rodriguez and Bailey Nichols with one hits apiece. Williams was tagged with the loss for the Cliff in 4.0 innings pitched and Claire Fischer threw 2.0 innings as well.

Game two saw Midland again take an early lead, scoring in the bottom of the second to lead 1-0 before Oliver tied the game in the bottom of the third inning at 1-1 with a single to center field to score Gemma Perez. It would be the only run the Charger offense could muster as the Warriors scored six times in the bottom of the fourth inning for the 7-1 win. Midland outhit BC 11-4 in the game.

Oliver notched two hits for the Cliff, with Del Alto and Perez both having one hit as well. Ciara Doztler suffered the loss for the Charger pitching staff with one strikeout in 3.2 innings pitched and Fischer also had one K in 2.1 innings of work.

Briar Cliff will be at home on Wednesday afternoon, hosting Dordt in a conference doubleheader with game one beginning at 3 p.m.
