The Briar Cliff softball team suffered two late-game losses to College of Saint Mary as the Flames rallied for a 3-2 victory in game one and CSM defeated BCU 2-1 in eight innings in game two. The two losses dropped the Chargers to 8-21 overall and 2-8 in conference play, while the Flames improved to 13-13 overall and 6-4 in the GPAC.

In game one Briar Cliff took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Ashley Del Alto doubled to score Nicole Romero. The Chargers then bolstered their lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth as Elise Berg scored off a single by Bailey Nichols. The two run lead wasn't enough though as the Flames rallied for three runs with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to lead 3-2 and then held the Chargers scoreless in the bottom of the seventh for the late-game win.

Briar Cliff had four hits in the game with Del Asto, Tiffany Goller, Berg and Nichols all having one hit and Del Alto and Nichols both had one RBI. Summer Williams started the game and went 6.2 innings, suffering the loss while striking out two batters. Brittney Banks threw a complete game for CSM in the win with eight K's.

Game two was scoreless through the first six innings of play until Saint Mary broke the scoring drought with one run in the top of the seventh inning. However, Briar Cliff would force extra innings after tying things up 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh when Summer Williams doubled to plate Romero. CSM would retake the lead at 2-1 in the top of the eighth when Banks scored the eventual game-winning run off a single by Kimberly Merwald. Nicki Larsen shutdown the Charger bats in the bottom of the eighth to complete her complete game win with four strikeouts and Ciara Dotzler also went the distance for the Cliff in the loss with one K.

The Chargers had six hits in the game with Williams leading the team at the dish with two hits, followed by Danielle Ishii, Nicole Wiles, Brooke French and Mikaela Rodriguez with one hit each. Williams had one RBI and Romero scored once.

Briar Cliff will be at Bishop Mueller Field again on Thursday afternoon, hosting Dakota Wesleyan in a GPAC doubleheader with game one beginning at 3 p.m.
