The Briar Cliff men's volleyball team fell in straight sets (25-17, 25-22, 31-29) to No. 4 Park in the Newman Flanagan Center this evening. The Pirates outhit the Chargers .207-.147. Briar Cliff slips to 2-5 overall and 2-5 in the conference, while Park improves to 7-0 and 2-0 in the league with the victory.
The Pirates earned a .207 hitting percentage with 44 kills and 20 errors off of 116 attacks, while the Chargers hit .116 at the clip with 41 kills and 24 errors off 116 attempts. Park held the edge in the statistical categories of kills (44-41), assists (39-38), blocks (17-10) and service aces (2-1). Briar Cliff earned the advantage in digs (46-45).
Peyton Schirman led the Blue and Gold with 20 kills, followed by Jacob Ewart with 11 K's. Enrique Barajas dished out a team-high 27 assists, while Noah Marasco-Ayau contributed 18 digs defensively. Nate Saksa built a wall at the net with five blocks.
Daniel Arteaga was the best scorer for Park with 15 kills, trailed by Oscar Tuero with 11 kills. Allain Larroche quarterbacked the offense with 32 assists and Milos Trivunic notched seven assists. Defensively, Billy Crow piled up 11 digs and Arteaga contributed 10 digs. Tuero rejected six attacks at the net.
Briar Cliff will now turn their attention to No. 10 Clarke. Opening serve between the Chargers and Crusaders is set for 10:30 a.m. tomorrow morning at the Newman Flanagan Center.
