At a recent end-of-the-year banquet, the Briar Cliff University volleyball team handed out its 2007 team awards.

The squad's MVP was libero Kate Boettcher (Owatonna, Minn.).  The senior earned first team all-conference and all-region and was named both the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and NAIA Region III Libero of the Year.  She was also named the team's Best Defensive Player.  Boettcher set a pair of school records during the 2007 season including digs in a career (2,862) and digs in a season (834).  A year ago, she set the record for digs in a match with 50 against Doane.  During the 2007 season, Boettcher played in every game and had 27 ace serves.

Sophomore Alex Anstine (Hastings, Neb.) was named the team's Best Offensive Player after leading the team with 47 ace serves and finishing second on the team with 369 kills and 702 digs .  Her single-season dig total was BC's highest-ever by a non-libero.  The second team all-conference selection also produced nine solo blocks and 40 total blocks as she saw action in all 118 games.

Junior Nicolle Donovan (Worthington, Minn.) was named the Chargers' Hardest Worker and the team's Most Improved Player.  Donovan led the team with 1,107 assists (9.80 apg).  She also registered 57 kills, 25 ace serves, 404 digs and 59 total blocks.

Junior Kayla Bessmer (Battle Creek, Neb.) was named Most Valuable Junior Varsity Player, while freshman Chehala Pace (Treynor, Iowa) was dubbed Most Improved Junior Varsity Player.  Bessmer saw action in 27 varsity games and produced 204 assists and 47 digs.  Pace played in 22 games and had 25 kills and nine total blocks.

Senior Micaela Borer (Mead, Neb.), who led the team with 405 kills and 102 total blocks, earned honorable mention all-conference accolades.  Junior Emily Burbach (Wynot, Neb.) registered eight ace serves against St. Ambrose, which ranks second all-time.  The Chargers also recognized a pair of NAIA All-America Scholar-Athletes in juniors Jenna Johnston (Blencoe, Iowa) and Samantha Kube (Crofton, Neb.).

The 2007 Chargers finished the season with a record of 22-11, the program's third-consecutive 20-plus win season under head coach Mary Schroeder-Miller.  The Chargers' season came to a close with a 3-1 loss to Dordt in a first round GPAC Tournament game.
