The BCU softball team went 2-0 on the first day of the 2009 GPAC Softball Championship.  The Chargers defeated third-seeded Concordia, 5-1 and then followed that up with a 4-0 win over Midland Lutheran at the SYA Softball Complex, in Sioux City.  Camille Cruz threw both games for the Chargers, registering 26 strikeouts on the day, including 15 in the second game. The 26 strikeouts increased her season total to 203, a new Briar Cliff single-season record. She set the record last year with 191 K's. Against Concordia, Tana Colt led the Charger offense, going 4-4 and scoring two runs. Against Midland Lutheran, Mandy Wagner went 2-3 with two RBI, registering the Chargers' only hits in the game. Briar Cliff (22-17) will now meet Hastings, at noon, tomorrow.
