Yet another split for the Briar Cliff baseball team. This time, the Chargers split a GPAC doubleheader with Sioux Falls, dropping game one (
4-2) before winning game two (
7-5). Despite the games being played at BCU's Bishop Mueller Field, the Chargers were the visiting team on the scoreboard. The doubleheader was originally scheduled to be played in Sioux Falls, but was moved due to field conditions.
In game one, the Chargers took a 1-0 lead before allowing four runs in the bottom of the second inning. David Callahan was the only Charger to register multiple hits in the game, going 2-3 with a run scored. Each team produced five hits and stranded four runs on the pads.
In game two, the Chargers trailed 1-0 after five innings of work by starter Nate Olson. In the top of the sixth, the Chargers exploded for five runs. They tacked on two more in the top of the seventh to take a 7-3 lead. The Cougars then added a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Each team knocked six hits around the park. Andrew Benton was 2-3 with three RBI, while Jake Olivas was 1-3 with two RBI. Cody Davis went 2-4 and scored a run.
With the split, the Chargers improved to 18-19 overall and 8-6 in the GPAC. Sioux Falls remains a game ahead in the league standings at 9-5. Overall, the Cougars are now 12-14. The Chargers will host Dana, at 1 p.m., Saturday.
