Iowa Falls-Alden's Michael Collison has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Briar Cliff University, in Sioux City, Iowa.  Collison, who's brother currently plays in the NBA, follows in the footsteps of his father, who also played basketball for the Chargers.
"We are very pleased that Michael has decided to attend the same institution that his dad played at over 25 years ago," said Briar Cliff head coach Todd Barry. "Michael has a tremendous upside and a great work ethic. We look forward to him having a great career at Briar Cliff."

Michael is a two-time all-North Central Conference selection. He earned first team honors as a senior and second team honors as a junior. The 6-9 Collison is averaging a double-double this season for the Cadets with 14.5 ppg and 10.5 ppg. He has 112 blocked shots this season and 301 blocks for his career.

His father, Dave, played at Briar Cliff from 1974-76 under the direction of Briar Cliff coaching legend Ray Nacke. The Chargers produced a combined 36-18 record during those two seasons. Dave went on to a very successful high school coaching career with stops at Spalding Catholic, Dallas Center, Fort Dodge St. Edmond and Iowa Falls. He led four teams to the state tournament, winning two championships with Iowa Falls. His career coaching record is 282-155 in 23 years. Collison's brother, Nick, played at Kansas University and now plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder of the National Basketball Association.

Outside of athletics, Michael has been involved with his youth group and school plays. The son of Dave and Judy Collison intends to study history education at Briar Cliff.
