The number four team in the nation proved itself worthy of that ranking today at Olsen Stadium as Morningside defeated Briar Cliff, 73-8.  The Chargers' lone score came in the fourth quarter after the Mustangs pushed their lead to 66-0.  The Mustang defense scored twice, returning an interception and a fumble for touchdowns.  Poor special teams play also hurt the Chargers as the Mustangs scored on a blocked punt.

The Mustangs produced 379 yards of offense, while the Chargers had 157 total yards. Senior Kyle Gerdes was 17-29 for 86 yards.  Sophomore Chase Colvin had five receptions for 28 yards.  Sophomore tailback David Shepard finished with 87 yards on 25 carries.  Sophomore Eric Bolin shined for the Chargers, defensively, with eight tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack.  Junior Jarrod Makovicka also registered eight tackles.  With the win, the Mustangs remained undefeated, improving to 9-0 overall.  The Chargers are now 2-8 overall and 2-7 in the GPAC.  They will wrap up their 2008 campaign with a Nov. 15 home game against Nebraska Wesleyan University.
