After suffering a disappointing 89-88 loss, Wednesday, to NAIA No. 9 Northwestern, the NAIA No. 2 Chargers look to regain their momentum, today, on the road, against Dordt. The Chargers are 19-4 overall and 10-3 in the conference, while the Defenders are 9-13 (4-10). Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
CHARGER NOTES: Nationally, the Chargers are the highest scoring team in NAIA DII averaging 85.7 ppg. The Cliff defeats its opponents by 17.9 ppg. Five Chargers register over nine points per game led by Kylie Dilla, Megan Salcedo, Kela Cihak, Kelsey Evans and Mattie Murren. Dilla tosses in a team high 13.0 ppg while Salcedo contributes 10.4. Salcedo has cooked up one of the top field goal percentages in the GPAC shooting 60.3 percent. Cihak throws in 10.0 and trails Salcedo in the fieldshooting 55.6 percent (4th GPAC). Evans led the Blue in Gold in scoring against Northwestern with 13 points, to date Evans averages 9.6 ppgfollowed by Murren with a 9.5 ppg average. A large aspect of the Charger's successful offense is their ability to move the ball around. The Blue and Gold is number one in assists in the NAIA DII nation with 439, averaging 19.1 apg. Leading in the assists stats column for the Cliff is Dilla with 80 assists in the 2011-12 season. Briar Cliff is known to keep its opponent on its toes with full-court presses and aggressive defense. This allows the Chargers to force their opponents into a significant amount of turnovers. Several BC squad members have recorded un-paralleled statistics in the steals column. Leading the Cliff is Dilla with 49, followed closely by Cihak and Evans with 48 apiece. Kristen Twait plays a vital role in the Charger defense recording 28 blocksthis season. Salcedo leads the Chargers on the boards averaging 5.7 rpg.
DEFENDER NOTES: The Defenders are led in scoring by Kara Van Dyke and Brianna Spronk. Van Dyke averages 11.0 ppg while Spronk tosses in an even 10.0 ppg. Van Dyke is the team's top shooter from the field registering a 54.9 percent mark, in addition to her scoring ability; she has handed out a team-high 24 assists this season. Jaimie Kok and Jessica Jelsma lead the team with 48 assists apiece this year, while Kayla Gesink has claimed a team-best 29 steals in the 2011-12 season. Van Dyke is the Defenders go-to player on the glass averaging 6.7 rpg.
