NAIA No. 9 Northwestern snapped No. 2 Briar Cliff's 17-game home winning streak with an
89-88 decision on Coaches vs. Cancer Night at the Newman Flanagan Center. The back and forth battle featured six ties and nine lead changes. In the end, the key to the game for the Red Raiders was a 44-30 advantage on the glass.
The Red Raiders shot 48.3 percent from the field, compared to 46.8 percent by the Chargers. Kendra De Jong led the Red Raiders with 27 points, while Kami Kuhlmann chipped in 18. Mackenzie Small and Samantha Kleinsasser finished with 15 apiece. Allison Dunkelberger led the Red Raiders with nine rebounds.
Kelsey Evans led five Chargers in double figures with 18 points. Kylie Dilla tossed in 15, while Kela Cihak finished with 13. Summer Gordon and Megan Salcedo rounded out the Chargers' double digit scorers with 12 and 11, respectively. Dilla had a team-high six assists, while Gordon and Twait each had five caroms.
Northwestern is now 16-5 overall (10-3 GPAC). The loss snapped the Chargers' four-game winning streak and dropped them to 19-4 overall and 10-3 in league play. Briar Cliff will be in action again, Saturday, at Dordt. Game-time is set for 2 p.m.
