The Broncos scored the first basket of the game and then never led again in a
75-63 loss to the visiting Chargers of Briar Cliff. Megan Salcedo scored a season-high 21 points as she paced three Chargers in double figures. Salcedo was 10-11 from the field. Her 21-point performance was the most she has scored since a 22-point outing against Jusdon, Nov. 13, 2010.
Salcedo was followed in scoring by Kelsey Evans and Kylie Dilla. Evans was 4-5 from three-point land and finished with 15 points, while Dilla tossed in 10 points and a team-high three steals. The second-ranked Chargers led by as many 16 in the first half, but the Broncos did not fold. They closed the deficit to as few as three points in the second half, 46-43 with 15:03 to play, before the Cliff responded with a 7-0 run.
The Chargers shot 53.8 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from downtown. The Chargers and the Broncos each had 22 turnovers in the contest and the home team won the battle of the boards by two (27-25). As a team, the Broncos shot 45.8 percent from the field, but only 16.7 percent from downtown.
With their fourth-straight win, the Chargers won for the 10th time in their last 11 games and improved to 19-3 overall and 10-2 in the GPAC. The Chargers return to the Newman Flanagan Center, Wednesday, as they host Northwestern. It will be Coaches vs. Cancer Night, so everyone is encouraged to wear pink to the game. The Chargers are 8-0 at home this season.
