Briar Cliff softball coach Michelle Schaper has announced the signing of Adriana Angulo from San Diego, California. The 5-2 incoming freshman is expected to help the Chargers not only on the infield, but also in the outfield.
"Adriana will help fill some holes for us next season," Schaper said. "She is a strong competitor and her experience and winning mentality will be a great asset to our program."
Angulo was a four-time varsity starter for the University City Centurions, helping her team to three-straight San Diego-California Interscholastic Foundation Division 3 Championships as well as three Western League Championships during Angulo's sophomore, junior and senior seasons. Throughout her career, Angulo put up impressive numbers, including hitting .366 with a slugging percentage of .548 in her final season with the Centurions. She also produced a .489 on-base percentage, with 11 singles, one homerun, and 10 RBI.
"She is the total package," said Schaper. "She is a very talented student-athlete and has had many successes thus far, on and off the field."
Angulo was recognized for her outstanding character while at University City, receiving the California Interscholastic Foundation's Sportsmanship Award. Aside from athletics, she was also named to the All-Academic Team in 2010 and 2011.
The daughter of Adrian Angulo and Mary Haney plans to study graphic design at Briar Cliff.
