Several members of Briar Cliff's men's and women's cross country teams as well as the entire women's basketball team took part Saturday in the 12th Annual June E. Nylen Cancer Center Race for Hope at Adams Homestead Nature Preserve in McCook Lake, S.D.
The event,  the largest in its 12-year history with over 500 participants, included a 5K run, a 15K run/walk and a one-mile kids' fun run.  Three members of the Chargers' women's cross country team ran the race as well as two members of the men's squad.  In addition, nine other members of the cross country teams and head coach Nate Trienen were volunteers at the event.  The BCU women's basketball team presented the cancer center a check after 19 players and head coach Mike Power crossed the finish line.

"This was a great event for our players to get involved with and a way for us to give back and support a worthy cause," said Power.

The Chargers raised a significant amount of money through both per-mile contributions and straight donations.  All registered participants received a race t-shirt, post-race food and chances to win various door prizes.  All of the proceeds from the race will remain in Siouxland to benefit the patients of the cancer center and their families.
