More Chargers than ever will take the stage tomorrow at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Junior all-American Sam Acheampong returns in the 60m dash, while senior Erik Lindsay will shoot to be among the nation's best in the 60m hurdles.
Acheampong is seeded fourth going into nationals with a season-best time of 6.83, while Lindsay broke his own school record in the event this season by clocking an 8.11 as he became BCU's first-ever conference track champion. Lindsay is ranked seventh heading into nationals.
Also returning to the national stage is senior Ashley Sparks in the weight throw. She just missed out on all-American status a year ago and has a best toss this season of 52-11.75. Joining those three on the national stage are junior Liz Benjamin in the triple jump, sophomore Tara Cockerill in the shot put and the women's 4x400m relay team of freshman Jayna Specht, freshman Gabbi Kates, sophomore Maddie Borer and sophomore Katie Beldt. Benjamin set a school record and qualified for nationals with a leap of 36-00.00 at the Dordt Invitational, Feb. 13, while Cockerill finished second in the shot put at the GPAC meet with a school-record toss of 44-07.50. The 4x400m team qualified for nationals with a time of 4:04.84 at Buena Vista.
Indoor nationals will be held at the GaREAT Sports Complex in Geneva, Ohio and will run through March 5. Follow along with live results at the NAIA's championship site. (
