The Briar Cliff women's 4x400 relay team of sophomores Gabbi Kates and Jayna Specht and juniors Madison Borer and Katie Beldt, know the track at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio well. Last year at indoor nationals, the foursome produced a personal record time of 3:59.97 on the same track. This year, they are coming off a fourth place finish at the GPAC meet and still looking to replicate last year's time. The relay team will be the first Briar Cliff athletes to compete at this year's NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships as it takes to the track tomorrow evening.
Junior Tara Cockerill is not scheduled to compete in the shot put until Saturday. Cockerill finished second in the event at this year's GPAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, throwing 45-10.50, a new Briar Cliff school record. A year ago, Cockerill made the finals in the shot put at the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships and finished ninth with a toss of 43-02.25. Cockerill is seeded fifth going into the event, while the 4x400m team is 14th.
